I thought the idea of multi-level marketing was where you got people to work for you, and you make money on thier work, as well as your own.

Does the american dream incorpoate getting people to work for you? I thought the american dream was about "making it" on your own, perhaps having your own business, but certainly does not require you to be an employer. So I see little correlation.

And then you use the word scam. As pointed out, not all multi-level marketing is a scam. So in that sense, is some of the "american dream" a scam? Now here I see some potential. For instance, as some have said, part of the american dream is that anyone can "make it", and I think the reality is that not everyone can make it. Many will fail, some because of thier race, parents, geography, etc. Oh yes, some will overcome some of these obstacles, but they will be a minority.

It's not an MLM scam if there are actual products being sold. And last I checked, we sell a lot of product in this country.

If I follow your logic, and I think I might have, only if an American couple chooses to have children. Even so, I'm not sure I can totally agree. The children do, according to said American Dream, have the freedom to move elsewhere or refuse to worship the almighty dollar.

Interesting question, still.

For it to be a scam, it would have to be equivalent to a Ponzi Scheme, in which there is never a product produced, but requires additional individuals to join the network to sustain it.

There isn't the least bit correlation to this, even though MLM's are not even considered scams(except in Ponzi Schemes).

Unless you want to compare an individual who is 'kiting' checks with a Ponzi Scheme.

Knowing what MLM is means seeking and listening and thinking like a small business - that means the last sentence to your question already sets you up for a decision based on emotion. Look in the mirror and ask if you really want true advice, or are just looking for others to be 'yes' men to your question. Due diligence means also looking at the negatives. If you're not willing to look at the negatives also, then you've answered your question without firing a shot. Why ask? If you enter into a relationship listening to the good, bad and the ugly, then the decisions made are based on good intel; and the consequences are always yours alone. The good intel is only as good as your willingness to check it out beyond your comfort zone. Advice and opinions are always personal and 20/20 in hindsight. Everybody sells. I'm selling you my opinion. You have to sell yourself to wake up and do another day. Every thing's a decision and we all have filters for survival; denial, procrastination, voting with your emotions, using your gut feeling, analysis paralysis, rationalization...figuring out whether you want to go with a business, mlm or not, is like figuring out whether you want to date someone, or even marry that person. So, it doesn't matter what others say; it only matters how serious you are, or not, and whether it turns out to be a mistake or not; are you willing to take the consequences? There's always tomorrow. Is this a product or enlistment program? Would you sell this to your mother - and could you sleep doing this if it doesn't work? You have all the questions, and you have all the answers. The rest is technical jargon and rules for regulation.

Yes, all these people are like "I want to study this and get this job and do this to make money." People with a passion for what they do are few and far between. This drive for money is all part of the American Dream and buying a big house, driving a Hummer, things like that.

the first thing you need to do is to find out if this is a reputable company and what the history behind the founders are like and their track record. Are they reputable? Are they backing the business with their money or other peoples? Do they have integrity? Is the product something everyone can benefit from?
Next, get your names list ready-100 people, and friendship farm- look for friends who have friends. Is there a franchise like approach to the business? Is there follow up materials? Is there a website for info about this like mine-? What are you offering? I am looking for a real estate broker in Indiana- do you know of anyone?

The upside is tax advantages and depending on the MLM maybe some good products. The doenside is MLM is alot of work. You need to maittain a unresonable amount of monthly sales with most. You need to stock product with many. You need to place orders for others and deliver when the product arrives plus collect money sales tax ETC.You want a company with unparalled consumable products and state of the art nutritional products and a reorder rate of 95%. Without the MLM downline mentality. I know if you give someone great products not only will they keep ordering but they will tell others. Only one company I know of only one company that will pay you for just recomending people to them and do all the work to keep them happy customers and if they want to do more then they help you help them with a pre laid out buiness plan that works, support from company leaders so you do not have to do presentations. Look up my 360 and It will lead you to more info.

I asked Bill Gates, he doesn't think so.

I started out making less than $25 a week and retired at over $90K a year with no college degree. That's equal to about $130K in today's dollars. And yeah, I WORKED for every damn dime of it.

If you think it's a scam move to Cuba, everyone but Castro is equally poor. Remember the pigs in Animal Farm, I guess Castro is a little bit more equal...
